Sure, it is a plot-driven, somewhat ham-fisted consequence that Ian be forced to stay with the Mohawk, but it works as well as it does because it doesn’t feel like a punishment to Ian it feels like the opportunity to understand the world and himself better. That’s what Ian’s new life with the Mohawk represents.
